Enteral Iron Supplementation

Intended Audience: All neonatal nurses

Purpose Statement:
The purpose of this column is to describe the etiology of iron deficiency anemia in neonates and to discuss recommendations for enteral iron supplementation in the neonatal population.

Learning Outcome:
Upon completion of this activity the learning will identify the indices for monitoring iron and will discuss the indications, dosing and contraindication for oral iron supplementation in infants.
